I have discovered that there are about 3 types of Campion novels Where Campion is dopey and ridiculous where Campion is the name of the detective but bears little resemblance to the Campion in the other books and finally the Campion who is an interesting person and oversees interesting plots This is one of the latter ones and I put it on the same uality level as Tiger in the Smoke I think I read Tiger in the Smoke early on and then as such I was bewilderingly confused with the early Campion books where he s a ridiculous parody So skip the goofy Campion and dive into the ones with a better fleshed out character undertaking an interesting bit of work Hell in a Handbasket Devilish Debutantes #2 revolves around Saltey for centuries a hidey hole for all manner of villains Astonishingly it is the early 1960s and Saltey like many English coastal towns is being over Say Your Abc With Me run.
